A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor diode that emits narrow-spectrum light when an electrical current is applied in the forward direction. This type of light output is a form of electroluminescence as opposed to conventional light sources which produce light as a result of heat known as incandescence. Excited electrons within the LED release energy as photons (light) the colour of which is determined by the composition of the semiconducting material used.
LED’s have a very long life (20-30,000 hours) compared to conventional incandescent lamps (1000hrs) and today’s high power LED’s deliver up to ten times the lumens per watt of power consumption than does as standard household filament lamp. Further enhancing their environmental benefits LED’s are free from the mercury content inherent in Fluorescent and many discharge sources.
RGB LED’s can mix Red Green and Blue to produce almost the entire visible spectrum of light. The critical issue with all LED’s is quality of the manufacturing process which determines not only the light output and life but also dictates the ability to accurately reproduce the same colour from different cells.
In assembling our range of LED fixtures we have paid close attention to the quality of the light sources employed and looked to provide the most reliable and versatile range of LED luminaires designed specifically for professional lighting applications.
Unlimited flexibility and new creative possibilities for designers with revolutionary visual effects. From colour changers to gobo rotators, LED’s to power supplies, Chroma-Q is an ever expanding range of lighting accessories and fixtures.
