New Special Announce
It's Finally Gone Live!!
THE JBL RENTAL PARTNER NETWORK WEBSITE IS NOW ACTIVE!!

The JBL Rental Partner Network (RPN) website is a portal for end users to access information on production rental companies Australia wide.  It is also a promotional tool allowing us to promote any of the partners through one central website.  Jands is the first distributor to give their Rental Partners their own website in an attempt to assist the partners to market themselves in conjunction with Jands.  As the JBL RPN grows we will be utilising the site to market and promote our Rental Partners into the private, corporate and government sectors via various mediums.

To date, the JBL RPN has been received very well and we currently have 25 members.  We have had a number of new companies join us in this venture with Deluxe Audio in Melbourne purchasing a VerTec VT4888/4881 system and Total Events in Geelong taking delivery of a larger VRX system both with Crown drive.

All members will receive a monthly newsletter containing all sorts of interesting info from new products to specials and tech tips and support.

JBL VRX928LA and matching VRX915S Subwoofer

The VRX928LA is a lightweight (13kg), compact 8-inch, 2-way, 400-watt line array loudspeaker system that provides line array performance in smaller applications that do not require the long-throw characteristics of its larger, hugely successful sibling, the VRX932LA. The VRX915S subwoofer contains a 2265G neodymium magnet, patented Differential Drive®, 15-inch subwoofer in a front-loaded, vented enclosure. The VRX915S complements the VRX928LA line array loudspeaker and both can be safely suspended using the VRX-SMAF small array frame.

Key Features:

  • JBL’s exclusive neodymium magnet Differential Drive® subwoofer for high power capacity and lightweight.
  • Two patent-pending neodymium HF compression drivers.
  • Constant Curvature waveguide for unprecedented array coherence
  • Fly combinations of VRX928LA and subwoofers (VRX915S) with optional array frame (VRX-SMAF)
  • Integral rigging hardware for simple connection of enclosures and optional array frame. Arrays of up to six enclosures may be flown.
  • Dual angle pole socket for aiming flexibility. One or two speakers may be mounted to a 35mm pole or tripod stand.
  • Array Configuration Selector permits “array shading” in passive mode.
  • Dimensions (H x W x D):
    • VRX928LA - 230 x 420 x 270mm

Jands assist in Albion Hotel transformation

Parramatta’s Albion Hotel has undergone a fantastic face lift including the introduction of a 700 capacity live venue and nightclub called Gasworks, as well as a popular beer garden and bar. The hotel belongs to the Sofitel Hotel Group owners of many venues throughout NSW and Australia.

Audio consultant David Gilfillan designed and specified the audio requirements for the hotel with Beyond AV supplying and installing the equipment. A large number of JBL speakers were specified as well as Crown amplifiers and BSS processing.

The nightclub and live venue entitled Gasworks has a separate audio stage system that utilises four JBL VRX932LA Constant Curvature line array enclosures, designed with a wider vertical coverage than other larger VerTec series line array loudspeakers so fewer speakers are required in small to moderate-sized venues. However, they are designed and built to the same high standards and use the same advanced, concert-proven drivers. In fact the VRX932LA delivers extraordinary power handling, clarity, and flexibility in an attractive, easy to handle, lightweight and affordable package.

Also on stage for side fill or dance club mode are some pre-existing JBL Marquis Series MS115 speakers which are still working well after many years of use.

Two BSS Soundweb London BLU-80 Signal Processors and a BLU-32 Signal Processor I/O Expander connected by CobraNet drive the speaker system. This networked, fully assignable and distributed DSP solution gives the user flexibility, control, and cost-savings.

The speaker system is powered by two Crown amplifiers, a 4 channel CTS4200A and a 2 channel IT4000, chosen for their superior performance and reliability. The effects rack includes dbx compressors, limiter, noise gates, expanders and graphic EQ’s. Completing the audio requirements for Gasworks is a Shure cardioid condenser studio instrument microphone.

Jands also provided an Event 408 lighting console to control the lighting in Gasworks as well as supplying a couple of their HP12 professional wall mount digital dimmers and DMX512 distribution.

It is not just the impressive Gasworks that enjoys the benefits of a JBL sound system as the beer garden utilises fourteen JBL Control 25AV speakers which function for background music during the day. The beer garden also features an outdoor projector and a three-metre wide screen for their ever-increasing in popularity film nights for which the JBL Control 25AV speakers provide the soundtrack.

The garden bar uses a further six JBL Control 25AV whilst the public bar has a pair of JBL Control 29AV speakers.

Tech Tips

HiQnet London Architect 1.14

BSS Soundweb London is a programmable DSP system with control, and audio networking on a single Cat 5 cable. On offer is a free-design programmable DSP system that allows the creation of virtually any audio system design, and places no restrictions on signal path, sub-mixing or objects location.

BSS have released version 1.14 of their HiQnet London Architect software, for use with the BLU range of network signal processors.  Of note is the addition of Macros, and support for the new HiQnet remote controller, the BLU-8.

Macros

With the addition of a Macro Editor Application, the design process within HiQnet London Architect can now be streamlined further. Multiple processing blocks (and associated control pages) can now be created and saved within a single Macro block. This allows commonly used functions to be grouped together, available in the menu list for faster system design. Once entered into a design, the Macro cannot be edited by other users, allowing complete control over your design and the system.

BLU-8

The BLU-8 is a programmable zone controller capable of controlling a single zone, four zones,

or eight zones in different modes of operation.
A simple control surface and informative visual feedback ensure that non-technical users can be confident in making changes to an integrated AV system. The BLU-8 is available in both white and black and will soon be able to control other
Harman HiQnet products such as I-Tech
amplifiers.

Why Congo and Eos?

Congo and Eos are the two latest control systems available from ETC.
So what makes them so similar, and so different?

Congo and Eos are the results of work by two totally different development teams. Congo is derived from the Avab product line and was developed by the team responsible for those products (hence the moniker "Avab by ETC"). Avab joined ETC a number of years ago. Eos is a "from the ground up" product designed by a development team at ETC’s head office in Wisconsin, USA. While you will see many common features (both user a browser and tab format for displays, both have an effects engine, both have referenced data called palettes, both are designed for fully integrated control over conventional and moving lights) there are fundamental operational differences. You could use either Congo or Eos to program the same type of show.  How you get there would be substantially different.
